This gorgeous handmade journal began its life as Upon the Heights, a collection of poems by Jessie Robertson Upner, dated December 1943. With its rich forest-green textured hardcover and elegant gold lettering, the original book has a timeless beauty that makes it just as lovely to display as it is to use.
We've carefully transformed this vintage poetry book into a functional keepsake journal, preserving its original cover and selected poetry pages while giving it a wonderful new purpose.
A Little History Behind the Book
Upon the Heights is a collection of poetry by Jessie Robertson Upner (1862–1940), published posthumously in December 1943.
The preserved poems offer a glimpse into another era, with reflections on nature, love, solitude, family, and the passage of time. One particularly lovely inclusion, The Eucalyptus' Lament, is dated 1930.
Perhaps the most charming detail is a handwritten inscription preserved inside the book:
“To Diana, from Grandpa & Grandma Upner, Christmas 1965.”
This personal dedication adds another layer of history to an already meaningful book. Once given as a Christmas gift, it has now been thoughtfully reimagined as a place for someone else's memories, ideas, and stories.
Thoughtful Handmade Details
The original deep-green hardcover has been preserved, complete with its gold lettering and beautifully aged texture. It measures 7.75" x 5.5" and there is slight damage on the first page that can easily be covered.
Inside, a coordinating blue botanical paper brings a fresh touch to the vintage binding. A handmade gold wax seal featuring our Lekish Did It insignia adds a finishing detail, while an elastic pen holder keeps your favorite writing instrument close at hand.
Original poetry pages remain throughout, creating a lovely connection between the book's past and its new life.
Perfect for poetry lovers, writers, journal collectors, or anyone who appreciates beautifully aged books and meaningful handmade gifts.
